The 5-S wWorkshop is custom designed to fit an organization’s needs. The workshop includes instruction on the 5-S process and implementation of the principles in the workplace. Prior to the workshop, we work with the organization to select a work area for the implementation.
The time required for the implementation depends on the project selected. The minimum time needed for participants to complete a project using these principles is two days. If a larger project is selected, a more dramatic result of the 5-S process will be seen.
The first 5-S class will need to be three days long because we will spend some of the time developing policies and procedures in order to increase sustainability.
Since implementing the concepts requires a change in mindset, we start with change management principles. This helps participants to understand that this is a new way of thinking that everyone must accept for the process to reach its full potential.
Typical Workshop Outline:
Who Moved My Cheese?
Introducing the 5-Ss:
Seiri: Organization - Sort
Seiton: Neatness - Straighten
Seiso: Cleaning - Scrub/Shine
Seiketsu: Standardization - Standardize
Shitshke: Discipline - Self-Discipline
The participants implement the first 3 Ss in the designated area.
Agree on the standards to be used from now on for keeping the area neat and organized. We use a 20-point checklist to accomplish this task.
Agree on how self-discipline will be instilled using pride, management support and peer pressure to maintain the system.
Next steps.
This is a two or three day workshop held in your facility. The participants will spend some of the time in a classroom and most of their time implementing the 5–S’s.

Also I have had more self-confidence in my job and myself through the training." - Janet Cantrell,

“Very pleased with the focus on employee buy in to the process, not just talking about it and then charging in with an iron fist, but taking steps to ensure that the employees are on board. Very pleased with the preparedness of the event, hand outs, training presentation, etc. The employee buy in was outstanding this week; everyone did their part, and is motivated to keep going. The team was upbeat and ready to do a trial run by the end of the day on Thursday.” - Craig Mullens, Training Coordinator,
